This large contemporary art original is inspired by Boston, even though I’ve never been there. I have such vivid images in my head that I wonder where this recurring theme comes from. Who knows; maybe I have been there in another reality but don’t realise it? In the end I gave in and decided to paint an abstraction of what my mind sees and how my thoughts make me feel; warm, expectant and content. I’ve seldom done anything like this before – where I am relying on data in my brain based upon a place I have never been to. It was kinda cool though and the result, albeit a very personal one, is also a very accessible one and I’m very excited to be able to share it at last.

I enjoy painting like this enormously. I guess it’s the mix of styles and techniques that appeal so much; being able to throw, drag, splash and brush on one canvas has produced some very cool results. It’s this ‘coolness’ that forms the underlying trend behind this painting; both in the way it’s structured, the colours I use and also in the interpretation that goes behind it. Relaxed, informal and full of expectation… This painting has all the depth of colour and vibrancy you could want but its restrained shapes deliver it in steady waves rather than grabbing you by the throat.
