The Quark Entanglement is an original piece of contemporary art that is for sale and ready to hang. He was painted in just four shades of industrial enamel paints and was painted onto a triple-primed 11oz Belgian canvas then hand stretched by me around a kiln-dried seasoned hardwood frame. He measures 160cm x 140cm x 36mm deep. It a good weight too – thanks to the density and quality of the frame.
Is the black trying to get out or is it trying to get in? Why is it that shape? So many questions and not enough answers. I like to think that real success of a non-representational piece of art is to engage you without you knowing why. Sometimes less really is more so with this painting I have deconstructed some of my more trusted styles of application for a new method using six sizes of nylon spatula.
I have also played with more alternative paint densities than normal which has resulted in detail within detail (notice the solid black is not solid as it has other applications of the same colour (different density) placed on top of it)… I thought it was important to get as much subtle detailing in here as possible. This is one reason why this painting looks so amazing as you walk round it – the light catches it in so many ways that small details keep appearing then disappearing. This is incredibly difficult to see in photographs and very difficult to paint.
