What was blatantly evident however was that this installation would be unlike any other I have ever done; requiring me to develop new techniques, work with new materials and paint longer and harder than I have ever done before.
As a boundary pusher, this is up there. As a triptych it was expensive but as an experience, it was priceless.
51 metres of Tulipwood on a 44mm (w) x 70mm (d) profile; jointed, routed and finished by hand
15.2 square metres of 12 0z canvas, hand-stapled and stretched and rabbit glued TWICE
15 litres (3.3 gallons) of paint used across 14 colours
64 hours of painting, contemplating and deliberating
91 mixing sticks, 18 flat applicators, 12 brushes
30 metres of insulating, anti-damp plastic ground sheeting
11 heaters running 24 hours a day for 9 days to dry the paint
1338 miles of travelling from consultation to installation over 8 weeks
8 bespoke steel fabricated hanging brackets
