Heston was painted onto a 38mm framed canvas using an enamel base and measures 100cm x 80cm. He was painted using industrial based enamel glosses in various colurs, all thinned using a number of different agents and to varying viscosities.
I think Heston looks like a giant bloom of flowers but then you’ll probably see something different? Getting the consistency of paint flow is always incredibly complicated – too much or too little in the wrong places at the wrong time and suddenly one part of the painting gets lost into a world of imbalance and heaviness. The key to this piece is the distribution of black, which was applied in layers booth before and after the oranges and yellows.
Heston is loud but also very happy and looks sensational lit beneath a spotlight (a proper one – not one of those stupid LED things).
