Brighton Rock is painted in four shades of industrial enamel paint and measures 495mm x 595mm x 26mm deep and it is ready to hang. It comes in a silver frame and is glazed (under glass). What I love about this abstract painting is it’s beautiful playfulness and uplifting tones. I felt it reminded me of the seaside – hence its name. I used some drip techniques to get the effects I wanted – applied in a classic Pollock-esque style.

The red applications have enhanced the light and airy feel by adding some depth and colour whilst calming the speed and action of the yellow and white detailing. In certain places there are some very subtle details – I mixed a few glazing compounds into certain areas to make the paint crack – giving yet another interesting dimension to the piece. The painting was created on hardboard – my new favourite medium. The base layer was painted using a mixture of blue tones with the subsequent layering of the other colors on top – one after the other with a little drying time in between.
