G4 is painted in industrial grade enamel paints and some bonding solution and measures 140cm x 85cm x 36mm. He was hand stretched by me over a solid, kiln-dried hardwood frame and stapled on the reverse. This piece of abstract drip art is ready to hang.
By playing with viscosities and blending I am able to change the fundamental characteristics of a type of paint that is not suited to being applied to canvas. The results can be spectacular and very stark. One thing to remember when you read this and look at the pictures is that this painting, like all my works, are expressions of moments in time. There will be reasons why this painting looks like it does and why I covered some parts and not others. I used a number of techniques for applying the paints in order to get the drama of this piece across.
There is such a wave of movement in this piece that it can be a little overpowering. But this is where it’s real charm lies – in it’s ability to command a space with complete authority without making you feel ill. It’s strong and powerful composition leads away to a deftness of stroke that has allowed me to create some richly expressive flowing forms. It is an individual and truly stand-out piece of art that I rarely paint these days because despite it looking like it’s a piece of cake to throw together this kind of piece is actually very complicated to put together. If you would like to know why then please drop me a mail and I’ll happily explain.
