You only have to look at some of the close up shots to see what I mean. Bright vivid primary colours dart and weave around the canvas like Michael Flatley on acid. One of the joys of this kind of painting is its ability to balance control against chaos; always a huge challenge. Black is neither too heavy nor too light, the red is perfectly tempered by the blues and the white gently lifts all these elements together to produce a very singular painting that mesmerizes you wherever you look. Some of the techniques I have used have been influenced by the works of Jackson Pollock; never an easy act to follow.
If I ever stood a chance of harnessing the sheer unbridled passion that painting can produce then I think it would be perfectly expressed in this compelling blue, white and red composition. You don’t have to understand it; that misses the point. Just enjoy it for what it is; a pure release of shapes, forms and colour that work in total harmony. These kinds of paintings take real amounts of effort to get right – from the underpinning of the base layers and blends through to mixing viscosities, applicators, coverage rates and balance, proof that you really do get out what you put in. I absolutely love it.
