Osiris Original Painting
An incredibly complex and detailed piece, lively and intriguing and packed full of texture

Osiris was painted with industrial quality enamel and gloss paints. He measures 100cm x 100cm and is painted onto triple primed tight weave canvas (on the floor which is where I paint most of my art) then stretched over a kiln dried 38mm wooden frame. The finished painting is mounted into a smooth black-effect frame and has mountings on the rear allowing it to be hung out of the box.

This piece has probably taken the longest to get right out of all the paintings I have done recently. I think this is possibly the third incarnation of this painting that I can remember. I tend to go with an idea and if it doesn’t work I cover it up and try something else some time later on. This particular piece has been a work-in-progress for about eight months or so. I am at a point where I am finally happy with it

Unusually for me the painting features some extreme textures thanks to the use of a synthetic black medium that I have stuck to the surface then painted over several times. In some areas the density of this medium is extreme causing a series of mountain like peaks across the canvas. You can see what I mean in the some of the close up shots. I have used enamel, gloss, acrylic, oil and glow in the dark paints on this piece. In fact there’s not much I haven’t used! You may think that would contribute to disaster but you would be wrong. Sure, the painting is busy and complicated but it is also a bold statement, a single mass and something a little different from most abstracts. This painting has a history and I think that shows in the finished piece. It weighs a ton (not literally) and I could see it looking amazing on a white wall somewhere.
