The Sitting Man Original
An interesting acrylic abstract under glass with a hint of form and representaition

The Sitting Man is painted in a number of shades of industrial enamel paint, a water based white paint and two vinyl based paints including a fluorescent orange acrylic. The Sitting Man measures 495mm x 595mm x 26mm deep and it is ready to hang in portrait mode as this is the way it was painted. This work is covered by glass. This is the first time I have ever offered glazed works for sale.

Depending on which way you look at it there is a real sense of occasion n the colours I have chosen to use. In one corner we have fierce aggressive orange yet in the opposing corner we see a natural and calming white. I always seem to manage to get big contrasts of colours in my paintings – even when I do smaller pieces. I never normally tackle semi-representational subject matter but I felt the painting take me in this direction as I began to paint it. I can’t quite remember why I decided to paint an abstract form of a man sitting on a chair but I guess I must have been thinking of that at some point.

There are lots of really interesting effects in the way I have applied the paint on this piece – even if it is a lot smaller than the pieces I am normally used to painting. Like all my works – the devil is in the detail and this piece is no exception, offering you a change to get close to it and see all the minute intricacies of the applications and how they interact with each other to form an overall composition.
