Sometimes it’s the simplest of things that give us the most pleasure.
No complicated story in this modern art canvas painting; the shapes are regular, the colours are as bright as the sun and the coarseness of the blocks suggest a real abandonment of rules. This painting really doesn’t give a shit about anything – it’s just a pure, unadulterated expression of goodness; this is what happens when you let go.
In many of my modern art canvas I normally contradict myself. The painting actually features an even, balanced distribution of paint. Individual blocks are never too big and never too small. However, I chose to leave each block with an irregular finish (no neat lines this time around) to give the impression of something that’s a little randomized in its construction. Like I said, this is all about letting go. Total abandonment would leave nothing but mess. Our beautiful world is still made up of basic rules. I think that if you can embrace that you can have as much creative freedom as you can handle.
For me this modern art canvas painting makes me think of musical notes being played then turned into colours. Perhaps there’s a side to this art that brings out the child in me? A time when the world was full of simple, bold colours that we got to experience for the first time. Maybe that’s the real joy of a painting like this; an uncomplicated celebration of simplicity and colour. If you look for a deeper meaning you’ll end up missing the point. Bear in mind that there is a vivid fluorescent pink in this painting; something my camera doesn’t pick up too well!
