Calypso is a blossoming, tropical foray into the beauty of colour.
This large sized original piece of abstract art features around 15 individual colours. I get a very grounded feeling when I look at this as it reminds me of plants, flowers and sunshine; all the great pizzazz of the natural world.
If I lived somewhere like Barbados I would want to wake up every day and see my garden full of these colours.
Every so often I take a break from my beloved enamel paints and pick up my water-based acrylics instead. The ability to blend them is infinitely better than the enamels which are always tricky to control.
I love to break out of the process now and again and use a different medium to create with. If you look at Calypso from a distance you’ll see how balanced he is; this is because I arranged the composition in even and odd numbered segments—2’s, 3’s and 5’s.
Never allowing one part to become dominant over another. So even in a seemingly natural and organic composition I have still managed to get the balance right; then again, that’s something nature is very good at anyway.
