About this painting
This magnificent original painting is created with a stunning series of bright colours and tones. Taking its inspiration from all things floral this is one of those abstracts that delivers on many levels.
It’s long and rectangular and would be ideal for a space behind a sofa or along a wall with a dining suite. At 3 metres wide it’s big – but it’s carefully constructed layers and forms never allow it to be overpowering or aggressive. Instead, it has a light and uplifting quality that belies its size and presence.
The thing I always notice first is the colour. A bold and bright array of orange, pink, yellow and red. In fact, the whole painting is based around a central yellow form that reaches from one side of the canvas to the other.
Carefully placed elements of purple and red are fused with blue and gold to form incredible forms. The sheer range of tonal shifts (formed as colours are moved over each other) is staggering. It’s one of the reasons why this works so well.
Colour, colour, colour!
Suddenly a melon yellow becomes peach, cream, buttercup and mustard. This kind of multiple colour layering is one of the cornerstones of my work and a principle that works seamlessly with my amazing enamel paints.
Let’s now turn our attention to the features and details. I’ve used a number of different chemicals on the paints which has given me some astonishing finishes. You can see some of them on the close-up photos but this only tells half the story. If you can get up close to this, you’ll discover a world of minute details and exquisite forms.
Overall, this beautiful work of art is a celebration of colour; the depth and range is quite extraordinary – as is the finish of the painting. I love the way that light plays with the high and low points and the differences between high gloss and semi-gloss paints.
The prefect finishing touch to that big space you keep staring at!
