It definitely feels like it should have a botanical name as it certainly resembles something flowering. This wasn’t the case when I was painting it though; the painting is born from a simple collaboration between lime green, black and pink.
These are a favourite colour combination if mine. The reasons for that elude me but I do seem to be drawn to them. Having the opportunity to create using this palette is something I look forward to immensely.
There is, of course, a need to temper such stark colours with something a little more neutral and so white or cream usually makes an appearance when the others are present. In this composition the white has a slight circular arc to it which helps to diffuse the rather strong and angular lines that form the bulk of the painting.
You may also like to note that I have also pre-spun the black to create some radial banding within the black itself – this can be seen in one of the close-up photos and is recognizable as a series of straight lines moving outwards. It’s just one of those neat little details I like to add.
