Walking on Sunshine exudes life and all that’s amazing about it.
mean, just look at the colours in this expressive, joyous piece of abstract art. Bold, daring and full of energy; I can’t think of a better way to celebrate what it means to be alive. Beautiful shapes, strong, dense colours and the sheer size of this painting create a huge sense of occasion.
Perhaps the greatest story to tell is contained within the angular movements of individual strokes as they move in all directions across the canvas – some blending in with each other and some standing in stark contrast to others.
Including the huge yellow application across the centre is what really fuses the whole painting together; offering a balance and harmony across hues and tones that really shouldn’t work together but do.
I get images of the sea (something that features more and more in my recent work), of sunsets and of warmth. On an emotional level this piece connects me with uncontrollable happiness and contentment yet with enough edginess to still offer a sense of daring.
The explosion of movement with the blue application was entirely deliberate; it says that there is always room in our lives for new ventures, new horizons and new opportunities and that we should never be afraid of just going for it – fear maybe ephemeral but regret lasts a lifetime.
